Ring in the New Year with the Blood Brothers
BAC
group member St. Thomas Aquinas’ Regional
Arts Program‘s Grade 12 drama majors are performing the musical Blood Brothers to open their Grade 12
theatre season.

The
musical Blood Brothers is a
rags-to-riches story that makes a haunting musical. Mrs. Johnstone, deserted by
her husband and with children to feed, learns she is expecting twins, whom she
cannot possibly afford to keep. What unravels is a tale that will have the
audience laughing and crying through a web of situations and circumstances all
held together by a narrator that intrudes like fate reminding all of us the
price to be paid for the choices we make.
Blood Brothers was written by
Willy Russell, a playwright from England, who originally wrote it as a school
play in 1981. The musical opened in 1983
at the Liverpool Playhouse and won an Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The Broadway production opened on April 25,
1993 at the Music Box Theatre. Petula
Clark made her Broadway debut as Mrs. Johnstone, with real-life brothers David
and Shaun Cassidy as her sons. Clark and the Cassidys’ also recorded the
international cast album, with Willy Russell as the Narrator. The musical has
been playing in theatres across the globe ever since.
Blood Brothers will be
performed on January 8, 9, & 10 at 7:30 PM
in the Brian Dunn Theatre located in the school on 25 Corporation Drive. The
season continues with the Greek Tragedy ELECTRA on April 30th, May 1st
and 2nd. Tickets are 8$ for students and 12$ for adults. They can be
purchased at the door or contact John Thomas at john.thomas@dpcdsb.org.
St.
Thomas Aquinas’ graduating Drama Majors look forward to seeing you there!
