Family Day at PAMA

PAMA CELEBRATES FAMILY DAY WITH
FREE ADMISSION, INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES AND MORE

BRAMPTON, ON. (Feb. 3, 2014) – Residents and their families are invited to spend a fun-filled day at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) this Family Day! On Monday, Feb. 17, enjoy a free day of fascinating exhibitions, interactive activities and exciting workshops. Take advantage of some much-deserved family time with a full day of exploration, connections and creations at PAMA.

PAMA staff will be on hand throughout the day to provide information on the many exhibitions featured at the art gallery, museum and archives. The True Patriot: The Next Generation of Canadian Superheroes exhibition showcases the best in graphic novels, while George Walker’s The Mysterious Death of Tom Thomson features a limited edition, hand-printing volume of 100 engravings, and Inked: Tattoos and the Stories They Tell explores the popularity of tattooing through a crowdsourced exhibition.

Here’s what’s happening throughout the day:

·         Superhero ‘Selfies’ Activity
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Manning Square

Children can show off their superpowers by dressing up in superhero costumes, provided by PAMA, and creating their own facemasks, arm bands, power rings and sound effect cards during our hands-on activity. Families can capture their little masked crusaders in front of a decorated comic-style frame using their own cameras or smartphones.

·         Full-Grown, Full-Blown Superheroes
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Throughout PAMA

Spot life-sized costumed superheroes as they stroll through PAMA by day before they prepare to fight crime at night.

·         Curate Your Own Exhibition Activity
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Manning Square

Be a curator for a day! Using images from the PAMA collection, select the pieces that you would put together in your very own ‘museum exhibition’.

·         Instructor Led Drop-In Family Activities
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Studio 1 and Classroom 1

Our popular drop-in family activities will be available all day! Join our educators as they lead you through great exhibition-based activities including making pierced-tin lantern designs and creating your own comic character costume.

·         The World of Comics and Superheroes Workshop
11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; Art Gallery Studio 2

Inspired by PAMA’s True Patriot: The Next Generation of Canadian Superheroes exhibition, Kevin Hickey from Stadium Comics dives into the world of comics and superheroes. Explore the history of comics, collecting, learn some fun facts, and create your own cover for a comic.

·         True Patriot Book Signing
12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.; Art Gallery Lobby

Meet some of the creators of True Patriot comic book anthology and get your copy signed. Comics are available for purchase at the PAMA store.
