“Getting Inside Classical Music”
The Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association – Brampton, Bolton, Caledon Branch proudly presents:
“Getting Inside Classical Music”
with Peter Mose
Sunday, January 29, 2012 , 2-5 pm
Chinguacousy Wellness Centre, Room 2
995 Peter Robertson Blvd, Brampton, ON L6R 2E9
Six years ago, Peter Mose was asked to teach a music appreciation course at Ryerson University's LIFE Institute, a non-credit school for lifelong learners. He was a clueless beginner at classroom teaching, despite his career as a music critic and piano teacher. But he said yes.
The result has been far more stimulating and successful than he might have imagined. He has since developed several listening courses for the Life Institute that have found him exploring creative new directions of music learning, drawing on his backgrounds in musicology, criticism, adult education, and studio teaching. He has been working closely with a sound engineer to develop a customized set of CD listening excerpts to form a curriculum core, and he continues to craft participatory workshops which dispel fears about classical music, while inviting listeners into musical conversations with one another.
Peter has been presenting these unique talks in a variety of settings in Canada and the US, to audiences of all sizes. His participants now include music students and music teachers, as well as adult neophytes. His teaching journey is ongoing, and we at the Brampton-Bolton-Caledon branch of the ORMTA are pleased to present Peter in a workshop session on Sunday, January 29. We know it will be both lively and enlightening, and we welcome anyone interested to join us -- music teachers, teen and adult music students, and those Peter cheerfully calls "normal people."
$15 adults $10 students Refreshments will be served. To pre-register, please call Jen Smele 905-453-8609 or e-mail at jennifersmele@gmail.com
