About the Soloist

Jarred Dunn has been hailed in the New York Classical Music Guides as “evocative and mystical” (Donald Isler), having performed in North America, Europe and Australia as a recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestras. In the fall of 2013 he had his Rose Orchestra debut and first appearance in the Rose Theatre under the baton of Richard Hoenich. Featured engagements have included performances at the New York International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Isabel Bader Theatre, Paderewski Piano Academy, Westben Arts Festival Theatre, Ravenswood Hall (Sydney), Brampton Chamber Music Concert Series and The Juilliard School. For the past two seasons he has performed with Torun Symphony Orchestra at Artus Court in Poland, his premiere concerto performance was Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto.
An avid researcher, Mr. Dunn is involved with books to be published alongside piano aficionado David Dubal. Mr. Dunn regularly appears in performances and lectures of Mr. Dubal in New York, including Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music, and the New York International Keyboard Institute in the summer. The most recent publication is being published by Yale University Press. Mr. Dunn also adjudicates in competitions, most recently the Stirling and ORMTA Zone competitions in Ontario.

Pianists from across the province come to study and consult with Jarred Dunn: he is a teacher noted for his insight and understanding of piano technique. Regularly in demand, he has presented lectures for the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Associations (ORMTA) of Barrie, Brampton-Bolton-Caledon, Hamilton-Halton and Niagara Falls, and given master classes at the University of Toronto Student Studio (which he initiated), ORMTA Niagara Falls, Barrie and Hamilton-Halton and International School of Music in Sydney. Since 2004, he has served as a teacher for studios in Brampton, Toronto, Sydney, and at Central Peel and Harold Brathwaite Secondary Schools. He is presently teaching advanced students at the largest Arts Academy in the GTA, SYNERGY PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY located in Brampton.

He received the University of Toronto’s W.O. Forsyth Scholarship upon graduating as the most meritorious pianist in the faculty (B.M., B.Ed.). At U. of T., he double-majored in English Literature and Piano Performance before undertaking a degree in Education.

The pedagogical prowess of Mr. Dunn’s years is remarkable. At 24 (ten years after he began teaching), he is being called “Brampton’s amazing young pianist,” having received multiple scholarships throughout his degree at the University of Toronto. He has collaborated and coached with some of the most celebrated teachers and artists in the world, including pianists Andrea Bonnata, Janina Fialkowska, Edna Golandsky, Andresj Jasinski, Seymour Lipkin, Peter Longworth, Julian Martin, Robert McDonald, Anton Nel, Marietta Orlov, Ian Parker, James Parker, Ilja Scheps, Trefor Smith, Marc-Pierre Toth and Irene Florence Wong. He continues his studies at The Juilliard School, where he was among the last students of Jacob Lateiner, and currently is a student of the Chairperson of the Piano Department, Dr. Yoheved “Veda” Kaplinsky.
