CALL FOR ARTISTS/PERFORMERS! (Apr 2)

Habitat for Humanity Brampton-Caledon is having a dedication ceremony for one of its partner families on April 2, 2 – 3 PM, 20 Hoskins Square. They are looking for members of Brampton’s arts community to participate. Here are some ideas:
-       Perform a song as part of the ceremony
-       Write a song about home and family to be performed at the ceremony
-       Provide ambient music
-       Donate a piece of art to the family as a housewarming gift and be acknowledged from the podium for doing so.

After the 2 featured rounds of music there will be an open mic for all songwriters at the Cadillac Lounge. Sign up during the evening to grab your spot on the stage.

KX947 FM's morning host Toff of Toff & Melissa (CCMA radio personalities of the year) will be the MC for the Gala show

A draw was held from among the NSAI members who are performing during the festival and the winners were Barbara Lynn Doran & Elora Taylor. They will each perform a song to open the Gala.

14TH ANNUAL TIN PAN NORTH SONGWRITERS' FESTIVAL MAY 23-25TH, 2013

Look out Toronto! This year's festival should be the best yet!!  Tin Pan North is Ontario’s largest 3-day songwriters’ festival and is a celebration of original songwriting with intimate shows held in the GTA over three nights.  In addition to showcasing local talent, each show features some of Canada’s finest talent as well as some heavy hitters in the world of songwriting that come up from Nashville to take part in the festival. 

This year's show promises to deliver with headliners such as: 
   
            -          Michelle Wright, a Canadian Country Music Hall of Famer, with 25 Top Ten hits and more than forty major awards; 
            -            Steve Bogard, who produced nine #1 hits with artists such as George Strait, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Etta James, and Lee Greenwood; and who has produced albums for Michelle Wright, Deric Ruttan, Jerry Kilgore and Brad Cotter; 
            -           Marc Beeson, a Nashville veteran with over 100 cuts by artists such as Restless Heart, Reba McEntire, Jason Aldean, Kenny Rogers, Martina McBride; 
            -           Tim Taylor, a Juno Award winner whose songs have been cut by Canada’s top country artists, and who has won CCMA and BCCMA Song of the Year awards;
            -           Bruce Michael Miller, a producer, guitarist, songwriter’s vocalist, performer and Oscar nominee for best song in a motion picture in 2013; 
            -           James Gordon, one of Canada's most prolific songwriters, well known for his songs about social justice, heritage and environmental issues;   
            -           Suzie Vinnick, a perennial nominee and six-time winner of Canadian Maple Blues awards for her work;  and
            -           Marshall Dane, nominated in several categories at this year's CMAO awards, including Male Artist and Album of The Year. 

Other amazing headliners are:  Tim Buppert, Kate Todd, Ryan Cook, JK Gulley, Kim Beggs, Tom Barlow, and Serena Pryne.

Don’t forget about Music Row North!!!!

Music Row North is a one day, intensive seminar presented by the Toronto Chapter of the NSAI that will give you the inspiration and insight to become a better songwriter. Held at Trebas Institute on May 25th from 10am-5pm, music industry guests will include hit songwriters Steve Bogard, Marc Beeson and Bruce Michael Miller. Other panelists will include Jennifer Essiembre (Ole), Erin Kiyonaga (FACTOR), Jennifer Fox (Grant writer) and James Linderman (Berklee graduate), Deborah Wood (Publicity & Promotion), Rodney Murphy (SOCAN), and Wendell Ferguson (multiple CCMA Guitarist of the Year awards). The City of Brampton is now accepting submissions from artists for potential programming opportunities.

For an example of an upcoming event, please see below.

If you are an artist from any of the following disciplines:

-          Performing (theatre, opera, dance etc.)
-          Music (singer, songwriter, performer etc.)
-          Visual (painting, sculpting etc.)
-          Ethnic/Cultural (language, folk culture etc.)
-          Media Arts (publishing, radio, television, films, videos, photography etc.)

Youth Opportunity

Hey there!

Are you an artist or performer under the age of 30? Are you looking to get involved in something HUGE? Do you want to showcase your talent on a National Scale?

The Arts Network for Children and Youth is looking for young performers and artists to showcase their talent by performing at our National Youth Arts Week launch party on May 1 in Toronto.

What is National Youth Arts Week?

It’s about eruptions of art and creativity from coast to coast to coast.
It’s about inspiring youth leadership through creative expression.
It’s about building a movement that will continue to grow once the week is over.

We are looking for artists from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds; musicians, performance artists, dancers, visual artists, sound artists, filmmakers, creative writers, poets and culinary artists, just to name a few.

Meeting Agenda:
How to Fail in the Music Business by Steve Grossman. From a webcast in Sept 2011, Grammy Award winning industry music veteran, Steve Grossman, takes us on his musical journey and shows us the mistakes songwriters/artists make in building their music careers.
NSAI will also be doing song evaluations. Please bring a song with 10-15 copies of the lyric. Play your song live or bring a CD or cassette.

NSAI Songwriter's Night
Come join us for a fun evening of entertainment at NSAI's songwriter's night at the Moonshine Cafe. We feature 4 NSAI songwriters from 8-9 PM followed by an open mic which is open to ALL songwriters. Sign up for the Open Mic starting at 7:30 PM. Each songwriter will get to perform 2-3 songs each and once all writers have played, we'll do it again time permitting.
